What is Bullying?

Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance and is an act or behavior that is repeated. It includes actions such as making threats, spreading rumors, attacking someone physically or verbally, and excluding someone from a group on purpose.

Teasing, name –calling, inappropriate sexual comment and threatening are examples of verbal bullying. Leaving someone out on purpose, telling other children not to be friends with someone and spreading rumors about someone are examples of Social Bullying. Hitting/kicking/pinching, pushing, spitting, taking or breaking someone’s things and making mean hand gestures are examples of physical bullying.
